The beer hall was built in 1914 – the municipality of Durban controlled the brewing and selling of sorghum beer which was sold in beer halls in the city. These premises served as a beer hall until 1968. 2025: The old beer hall is being restored and is now the Technical Centre for the Durban Art Gallery and Local History Museum.
