Click to view map Coordinates: | A large steel anchor is mounted vertically within a circular paved precinct, partly surrounded by a broad low face-brick wall. A short portion of the circular wall behind the cross is raised. A square mosaic panel set within the face-brick paving foregrounds the cross and defines a symbolic compass recording the four cardinal points - in Afrikaans. The anchor was recovered from the wreck of the Volo, a 500 ton Norwegian barque, which was stranded near Bushman's River Mouth in 1896. |
