ANGLO-BOER WAR 1899-1902 CENTENARY COMMEMORATIONS
39 JAN SMUTS AVENUE
This house was designed in 1905 by Percival Hill
Mitchelson for American mining engineer, Charles
James Price, manager of Geldenhuis Deep Gold Mine.
When war broke out the technical staff of the mines
formed the Railway Pioneer Regiment to repair war
damage done to the railways. Railways were
essential to the British army for moving
troops and supplies. Price served as
captain in the first battalion.
