Click to view map Coordinates: | An old ‘Locomotive Running Shed’ or ‘Loco Depot’ building clad in corrugated iron. The building was used to carry out "running" repairs on locomotives, coaches and wagons etc. Major maintenance was done in the Mechanical Workshops. The building has some interesting open cylindrical sheet metal ridge ventilators - set on the horizontal - each mounted on a narrow vertical pipe which enabled air extraction from the ridge of the roof, presumably using the Venturi effect. The trusses are made of steel pipes with welded gussets and support heavy C- section purlin. The building was used as a ‘Running Shed’ until circa 1975 but has since been repurposed and is currently being used as a panelbeater’s premises. William Martinson, July 2024. Thanks to Jack Ebden for his insights and contribution. |
