The hotel was originally a house named 'The Retreat'. It was converted into an hotel in the mid-1920s, and closed in the mid-1960s. Stellenberg flats were built on the site. (Arthur Radburn, March 2024) 1927: addition of 20 beds by WH GRANT. (Pryce-Lewis list 15 280).
