Goodnow Hall was funded by the American philanthropist EA Goodnow (1810-1906) and served as a cultural centre. The Neo-Renaissance building was designed in America by S Eagle. The ground floor houses a museum depicting the history of teacher training in Wellington and an interesting collection of old photos. Goodnow is currently used by the CPUT students and occasionally, the upper floor still provides a venue for the performing arts. (See the Wellington Heritage Trail). The Goodnow Hall was severely damaged during student protests in October 2016. After restoration it reopened with an inaugural concert on 11 October 2025.
