"This is vernacular architecture at its best. This H-shaped 18th Century Cape Dutch house has retained its gracious concave gable dated 1784. This is one of the earliest dated gables in the Cape. It has simple casement windows with solid shutters flanking a stable door in the centre and represents many country houses of the time. The simplicity of the façade adds to its charm, as do the seats plastered into the end walls of the front stoep, recalling a more tranquil era of cordial conversations with passers-by. It was once owned by S.P. Jordaan, the grandson of Huguenot Jean Jourdan. The Paarl Municipality restored the house in 1982. Currently it houses the town archives, a valuable record of documents and photographs relating to the history of Paarl." (A Walking Tour of the Historical Heart of Paarl)
