"This thatched Cape Dutch building c1819 displays some English influence in that it has an entrance passage. It has an unusual 18th Century vertically divided front door. It was the home of Paarl’s first magistrate in 1843. The house was purchased by the Historical Homes of SA and restored in 1967. The roof was raised to increase roof space and a small dormer gable was added. These factors have seriously affected the proportions of the building." (A Walking Tour of the Historical Heart of Paarl)

The building now forms part of a Senior Citizens' retirement complex.
