| The Lodge was built on a portion of the Welgelegen Estate. Ramadan built Buckingham Lodge in late Georgian style. having sash windows, panelled double-door beneath a spoke fanlight. It is recorded that the east wing was designed by AH REID for the Eastern and South African Telegraph Company (Pryce-Lewis list item 5529). In 1921 it became the premises of the Peninsula Maternity Hospital. In 1930 the Hospital Board bought the block and Buckingham Lodge became a nurses' and surgeons' quarters (Hislop 2018: 124-126).
