Diocesan College School - Grove Primary School, Sanatorium
Claremont, Cape Town, Western Cape

Sir Herbert BAKER: Architect
Date:1898
Client:Diocesan College Council
Status:Extant but altered

The Diocesan College Preparatory School ('Bishops Prep') occupied the property from 1885 to 1901. School buildings, designed by Sir Herbert Baker, were erected in 1896, and the sanatorium was added later. Further additions were made in 1911. After the school moved to Rondebosch in 1901, St Saviour's School (later 'Feldhausen Public School' and now 'Grove Primary School') moved into the buildings. By the 1960s the school had outgrown its buildings; all of them, except the 1911 addition were demolished, and replaced with the present buildings, which were formally opened in 1968.
