See more photographs House van den Berg (1964), by Piet van den Berg, is situated in Alpine road, Lynnwood, Pretoria. Due to the soil conditions, the structure was arranged on a grid and divided into six identical squares, separated from each other with 150mm wide clear openings. The floors are suspended from six large sculptural concrete columns, and are adjustable to compensate for movement. Most of the external and internal walls are non load-bearing and consist of a combination of glass curtain walls and large sliding doors. Brise-soleil panels in slender steel elements surround the floating verandas and serve as sun screens. (Karlien Thomashoff, July 2021)
