Click to view map Coordinates: | This gracious Cape Dutch revival family home was designed by Jaap Jongens for the Dura family: a contractor's family from the Netherlands, who were active in South Africa in the period after the Second World War. Jongens referenced their trade in the embellishment of the main gable: a plumb line. This courtyard house is exceptional in the attention that was paid to the architectural joinery. A water feature reminiscent of the bath at Groot Constantia creates a visual focal point for the side stoep. (Nicholas CLARKE, December 2018) |
