Wolwedans Dam is a concrete dam in South Africa located on the Great Brak. The dam is the first single center arch-gravity dam in the world to be constructed of roller-compacted concrete, roller-compacted in layers with induced joints, that is fully reliant on three-dimensional arch action for stability. The 70-m high dam has a vertical upstream face and a stepped downstream face at maximum height of 70 meters above its lowest foundation with an uncontrolled spillway. The reservoir filled to capacity in 1992. The dam serves mainly for municipal and industrial water supply for Mossel Bay as well as the gas-to-liquids refinery PetroSA (Mossgas).
