The English wording on the plaque reads: This stone was unveiled by His Worship the Mayor Councillor G F Gardener on the 1 June 1953 to commemorate the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II The memorial is situated in Coronation Park, on Elizabeth Avenue. The names of the adjoining streets also refer to the British Royal Family: Margaret Avenue, Mount Royal Way and Mountbatten Avenue. The Afrikaans wording on the plaque mounted on other side of the memorial reads: Hierdie steen is deur Sy Edelagbare die Burgemeester Raadslid G F Gardener op 1 Junie 1953 onthul ter herdenking van die kroning van Haar Majesteit Koningin Elizabeth II (Submitted by Lila Komnick)
