| Simple white washed plastered hall church with add-on portico and half-hexagonal apse. A fine bronze bell is mounted within a free standing masonry structure on the southwest side of the church. The three sets of miniature heads on each side of the crown of the bell - where it connects to the timber yoke - form an interesting and unusual detail. The waist of the bell has two lines of text in German in raised capital letters which has been transcribed below: GEGOSSEN VON GUSTAV COLLIER IN ZEHLENDORF 1882 The translation into English reads CAST BY GUSTAV COLLIER IN ZEHLENDORF 1882ALONE GOD IN THE HIGH(EST) IS HONOR(ED) or GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST Notes: The Collier foundry existed in Zehlendorf (close to Berlin, Germany) from 1875 to 1918. The OE in HOEH’ is a single conjoined letter on the bell. In modern German it would be written as two letters as OE or as ö. It has to do with pronunciation. The punctuation marks after HOEH and EHR are deliberate. These are apostrophes, indicating, as in English, that a letter is missing or is silent, e.g. wasn’t. In both cases an E is ‘missing’, i.e. the words should be HOEHE or (HöHE) and EHRE. Text translated by Viv Mostert with assistance from Annegret Mostert, February 2024.
