Now the KWV Wine Emporium. The naming of the building obviously occurred long after it had been built. The KWV was established in 1918 and Dr André J du Toit (1914-1998) was its chairman from 1958-84. Du Toit was also a director of Eskom, Saambou and Bonuscor and chairman of Volkskas. He received the honorary doctorate from the University of Stellenbosch in the late 1970s. Du Toit's second wife, Nakkie Malan, was the granddaughter of Pres MT Steyn. (Paul VAN DER MERWE 2016)
