(Morné van Rooyen) In 1878 the first church under the supervision of the preacher, Rev. JP Jooste of the DR congregation of Potchefstroom, was built and 13 years later, the fervor of the rev. Du Toit brought about that a new house of God of stone could be inaugurated in January 1891. The war clouds of the Anglo-Boer War, also hung heavily over Lichtenburg. During Rev. Beyers' ministry the northern gable was added to the church, while Rev. Perold, who was here until 1919, took care of the inner beautification of the church galleries and made new pews, and under Rev. P. du Toit (1920 - '30), later Secretary for the Care of the Destitute of the Cape Church, the church received a stately tower with clock and a beautiful organ. References:
