REGINA MUNDI
CATHOLIC CHURCH
Popularly known as the “People’s Cathedral”,
Regina Mundi (“Queen of the World”) was a
rallying point during the dark days of apartheid,
offering sanctuary as well as spiritual comfort to
people from various political organizations. The
foundation stone was laid in 1962 by Cardinal
Montini, who became Pope Pius VI, and the church
was built by Father Gerard Coleman O.M.I.
and his congregation.
