Above the entrance door of the church, on the bell rower, is the following inscription, in raised plaster letters within a recessed rectangular panel:

BEWAHRE DEINEN FUSS
WENN DU ZUM
HAUSE GOTTES EINGEHST

This inscription is derived from Ecclesiates 4, Verse 17 of the German bible, which, loosely translated, reads:

"Watch your foot when you go to the house of God, and come, so you can hear.
This is better than the offerings of foolish people, because they don't know what evil they do".

In the English bible the equivalent text is contained in Ecclesiastes 5, Verse 1.

Information and translation provided by Annegret Mostert, East London.
