Built by a certain Mr Olivier whose fortunes were short-lived. However he spent a significant amount on the construction of this house before his bankruptcy. The roof-tiles were imported from Belgium, the stained glass windows and doors from the Netherlands, the verandah columns from Greece. The house has 18 bedrooms. It features various interior details of extravagant Late Victorian design (although built in the Edwardian age and designed by a Dutch-trained architect). (Kramer 2021:254, 257)
