Click to view map Coordinates: | Reinforced concrete bridge on the R63, crossing the Gonubie River. This bridge supplanted the steel lattice girder Blaine Bridge built in 1895 under the direction of Joseph NEWEY - about 350m downstream - when the alignment of the original wagon road was substantially changed. A cast iron plaque appears to have been removed from the first bridge, modified and installed at the concrete bridge. Transcription of cast iron plaque mounted on south balustrade: BLAINE BRIDGE Submitted by William MARTINSON All truncated references not fully cited below are those of Joanna Walker's original text and cited in full in the 'Bibliography' entry of the Lexicon. |
