Click to view large map Coordinates: | The bronze Memorial to the First World War was sculpted by Alfred Briscoe Drury R.A. in 1923. It depicts a young medieval knight in armour and chain mail, with his hands in gauntlets resting on the hilt of his sword. The sculpture surmounts a tapered sandstone plinth set in the entrance forecourt of the Great Hall at Rhodes University. It was relocated to this position from its original site in front of Botha House. The same bronze Memorial to the First World War is found at Malvern College in Worcestershire in the United Kingdom - albeit on a much more substantial stone plinth.
