1905: Club room added by G RANSOME (Pryce-Lewis list 1 365). The hotel was advertised in 1908 as being in close proximity to the Newlands rugby and cricket grounds. (Walker 2015: 67). This hotel became the centre of the Cape Swiss community from 1937 until 1948. The hotel was opened c1900 and was replaced with the present multi-storey hotel building (currently occupied by Southern Sun) c1972. (Arthur Radburn, August 2023) References: Walker, Michael. 2015.
