| The brief was to design a combination of residential units and offices on the same erf maximizing the commercial potential of the erf, while still presenting the client with a practical and aesthetically pleasing building. The challenge was to accommodate and combine the optimum residential and office components on the site while still providing the number of required number of parking bays. The result was exciting both visually and structurally. The resultant design reflects the no-nonsense simplicity typical of Howard & Chamberlain. The style of the building is minimalist with a special emphasis on clean lines and functionality. The brief called for a comprehensive design that makes discreet but adequate provision for all functions and services allowing for ease of management by the Landlord. The resultant building is truly functional. The choice of colors and materials highlight the clean structure and rational design. The delight of the building lies in the play between the heavy and light elements of the building, and in the interpretation of the pavilion aesthetic to suit the challenging accommodation schedule.
