The Hotel Cecil was in Rothsay Street, Benoni and was probably named after the famous Hotel Cecil of London. It was built in 1914 and was owned by Hotel Cecil Ltd. At that time it was the only hotel in Benoni with modern sanitation and fine bathrooms with hot and cold water. Its public and private bars were very popular and it lacked nothing for the comfort and welfare of guests.
