It has become a habit during the last decade in England to refer to Jane Drew as a role model for Women Architects. There has recently been a great increase in the number of women taking up Architecture in England and in Scotland, as there have in this country. JANE DREW became the first woman to sit on the RIBA Council; the first woman to be elected President of the Architectural Association; and the first woman to be elected a full Professor at MIT and Harvard. She has four Honorary Degrees. She was a visiting Professor at La Cambre (Belgium), Antwerp, Harvard, MIT, and UTAH. She was made an Honorary Fellow Member of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, the Indian Institute of Architects, and the American Institute of Architects. She wrote two books on Designing for the Dry and Humid Tropics (Tropical Architecture). She, and her husband Maxwell Fry, were responsible for the Architectural Association setting up the first School of Tropical Architecture. Read article >>>
