ACOUSTIC CEILING

Economic and Management Sciences Building, University of Pretoria 1991

This panel is a good example of the functional and decorative possibilities offered by plastered gypsum board. A timber framework is fixed to the concrete floor slab, clad with 12,7 mm gypsum board, the corners reinforced with scrim, and the whole finished with gypsum plaster. The acoustic absorption (necessary in a space with hard finishes) is supplied by mineral wool on black shade netting on a white polystyrene grating. In the middle of the panel is a sunken light fitting. The 600 x 600 mm grating is laid out to re-use the off-cut. Grating pieces are assembled by means of pop rivets.

AKOESTIESE PLAFON
