LA GERCHE, Alfred Romes

Very little is known of LA GERCHE. He was a pupil in Victoria Public Works Department from 1890 until 1893, thereafter, form 1897 until 1903, Assistant in the Western Public Works Department both in Australia. In 1903 until 1904 he is recorded as being an Assistant with the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of the NATAL COLONY. In about 1906 he was in partnership with AW SIMPSON and they designed the Presbyterian Church in Germiston in about 1906 (cf SIMPSON, AW & LA GERCHE, AR). By 1908 he was back in Melbourne, Australia, again in the services of Public Works, where he passed the qualifying examinations for the RIBA to which he was admitted as Associate in 1909.
