The partnership in Pietermaritzburg between FM KENT and MB PRICE from 1897 to 1904. Price arrived in South Africa in 1894, after Kent. It is probable the two men had worked together before since Price was articled to Beeston between 1886 and 1891. The partners were responsible for a number of pleasant, characterful buildings in Natal, among them the early buildings at Michaelhouse, sometimes mistaken for the work of Herbert BAKER, and a model dairy for Joseph Baynes at Nel's Rust (now part of the Baynesfield Estate) as well as the Agricultural Hall (later the Town Hall/Civic Buildings), with its HH Richardson-style front entrance, in Estcourt. They were also responsible for the design of the Girls' Model School in Durban (Gale St?) now demolished (probably the school plans for which Kent's obituary stated were accepted for the Girls' High School in Durban), a pioneer model school building in Natal. In 1901 the partners gained second premium in the competition for the Pietermaritzburg Post Office.
