Was born in London where he was educated at Arnold College, at Birkbeck College, London University and at the City of London Guilds. He was the son of an architect, Charles James Jones, ARIBA, London. Jones came to South Africa in 1913 and set up practice on his own account in Cape Town. By 1931-1932 he had offices in Hout Street in Cape Town.
