Was born in Paarl, the only child of the Immelman family. He received his primary education at La Rochelle and matriculated from Paarl Gymnasium before going to study further at Cape Town. He qualified in 1924 and was listed as a probationer of the RIBA in Cape Town that year. He set up practice on his own account in Cape Town at 4 Church Square. By 1928 he was living in East London and by 1933 had returned to Paarl. According to Albertyn (1990), Immelman often employed the Art Deco style and motifs in his buildings.
