HODDER, Richard Nicholls

Architect


Hodder was articled to Oliver Caldwell, FRIBA of Penzance, Cornwall, England and remained in the office for nine years. In 1905 he left for South Africa and was employed in Johannesburg as architectural assistant in the Town Engineer's Department of the Johannesburg City Council. He carried out the quantity surveying work on the Johannesburg Art Gallery and was responsible for abattoirs, 'native' compounds, the Klipspruit Municipal offices, Newtown Municipal Offices and dwellings, 'a class of work in which he excelled' (Jnl ATA Jun 1916).
