| | HENDERSON, John LouisBorn: 1880 04 19 Died: 1940 06 07Architect |
Nothing is yet known of Henderson's training. By 1915 he was resident in Benoni, a member of the Association of Transvaal Architects being appointed representative of the Association of Transvaal Architects Practice Committee for Benoni in 1917. From about 1922 until 1924 he was in partnership with JS BOWIE in Benoni (cf HENDERSON & BOWIE), both partners were elected Licentiate members of the RIBA in 1925. By 1928 Henderson had moved to Salisbury (Harare) in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) but by about 1930 had returned to Durban where he worked with PR COOKE and perhaps also with WG MOFFAT. He was not listed in South Africa after 1935 but appears to have returned to Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) since he was listed working in Salisbury (Harare) in 1938/1939. An illustration appeared in the South African Builder (Mar 1935:25) of a block of shops for Mr Gotlieb in Benoni, currently Henderson's only recorded building. LRIBA 1925; ISAA 1927.
