This seems likely to be the A. Tier who was listed in the 1890 and
1894 Argus Annuals under the heading of "carpenters, joiners and
builders" in Claremont. He was evidently Alfred Tier (1854-1931) of
Newlands, who was described on his marriage certificate (1883) as a
builder, and on his death certificate (1931) as a carpenter. CH TIER may have been his elder brother. Someone of that name was a witness at Alfred's wedding at St Saviour's Church in Claremont. (Arthur Radburn, October 2023)
