Mathebe R APHANE is an architect and an academic currently working at the University of Johannesburg in the GSA. She holds a Bachelor Degree in politics and Public Administration from the University Of Fort Hare, a BCom(Hons) from the Rand Afrikaans University (now university of Johannesburg), and an MArch (Prof) from the University of Pretoria. She has lectured at the University Pretoria, Tshwane University of Technology and now at the university Johannesburg in both the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. She serves on the African Council for the Architectural Professions Validation Committee. Her research focuses on the production of Black spaces in South African townships with specific reference to Atteridgeville.
