| | BAKER, KENDALL and MORRISEstablished: 1916 Ended: 1918Architect |
The partnership between H BAKER, FK KENDALL and J MORRIS in Cape Town which lasted from 1916 until 31 December 1918. It appears that a formal agreement on the dissolution of the partnership was drawn up or at least dated June 1920. But no formal deed of partnership appears to have survived. In 1918 the partners won the competition for the Cape Town Polytechnic and the competition for the Humewood Hotel, Port Elizabeth for the municipality; the municipality decided not to build the hotel on grounds of cost. After many delays and arbitration the hotel was finally carried out by Kendall, assisted by AA TAIT (cf KENDALL & TAIT), between 1923 and 1928. (Kendall & Earle Gift, UCT Libr; (the BLB have not been consulted). All truncated references not fully cited in 'References' are those of Joanna Walker's original text and cited in full in the 'Bibliography' entry of the Lexicon.
