Arrived as a carpenter in Pretoria of the then ZAR in 1893 and was responsible for the construction of the Wierda Bridge in Pretoria, the Gereformeerde Kerk, Sunnyside, Pretoria; the Gereformeerde Kerk, Bethal, Transvaal; as well as additions to the Zuid-Afrikaanse Hospitaal (1934-6).
