| | CARVER, JohnBorn: c.1814 Died: 1872Architect |
There is little known of this architect. He trained in England and prior to his arrival in Cape Town in 1845, had worked in Jamaica. In 1854 he designed St John's Church, Long Street then left to work in Namaqualand whereafter his movements remain obscure. In Cape Town he was appointed Foreman of works with the ROYAL ENGINEERS in 1858, a post he held for fourteen years until in 1872 illness compelled him to return to Lancashire where he died soon thereafter.
