Goldstein was born in London. He was in South Africa by 1926, attending classes in architecture in Pretoria from 1926 until 1928, leading to a diploma in Architecture. From about 1928 to 1933 he worked for V REES-POOLE with whom he carried out several buildings in Pretoria, among them the General Garage and the Broadway Mansions. He was elected an Associate member of the RIBA in 1933 and set up practice on his own account around 1934, executing various building in Pretoria and Springs. Currently nothing further is known of his pre-1940 career. By 1959 he had retired from the Institute of South African Architects.
