Alida Stewart was born in Tzaneen, on March 16, 1967. She has always had a passion for the serene and beauty of life. She took art lessons with Linda de Jager while at school and studied architecture at the University of the Free State where she also completed a master’s degree in architecture in 2001. She co-owned a ceramic studio in Knysna (1992-1995) where she created and decorated ceramics with her unique/distinct female faces. She has been teaching design and art to architecture students at UFS and NMMU for 13 years, inspiring her to develop a creativity program for toddlers and pre-scholars in 2004. Her focus on oil painting intensified since 2003 with tuition from Rina Badenhorst.
Her first solo exhibition was a huge success with 48 of the 56 paintings sold at the opening night! Alida has exhibited in a variety of galleries in Knysna, Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg and the Free State. Her works have also been seen on various art exhibitions and markets in the recent 4 years. The earthy colours, serenity and unique, distinct style of her paintings appeal to a broad market.
