Madelein Stoffberg was born in Louis Trichardt on 11 December 1985.

In 2005, after matriculating at Afrikaans Hoër Meisieskool in Pretoria the previous year, she enrolled as a student of Architecture at the University of the Free State, obtaining her B.Arch. Stud. degree in 2007, the B.Arch.Stud.(Hons) in 2008 and the M.Arch.(Prof) in 2009, the latter with distinction. Appointed to her current position as a part-time junior lecturer in the Department of Architecture immediately on graduating, she commenced her Ph.D. degree. Madelein is married to Conrad Stoffberg.

Her PhD thesis interrogated the perception of two community centres through the lense of Lefebvre's spatial triad under the supervision of Prof Walter PETERS.
