DE BOSDARI, Count Cosmo Diodono

Born: 1901 07 29
Died: 1979 05 19

Author

De Bosdari was one of Balkema's important protégés. De Bosdari arrived in South Africa from London without any knowledge or experience of writing. Balkema, however, recognised his talent and motivated him to write this first of many books. In the preface to his published account of Cape Dutch houses and farms, De Bosdari writes that: "The initial impulse came not from exact knowledge, but from the lack of it" (Human, 1999: 450).

Was a recipient of the Simon van der Stel Foundation - Heritage South Africa Gold Medal in 1977.

See also The Peerage.
