LACOVIG, Alessio

Born:

Architect

BArch 2004 (Witwatersrand)

2014 - Partner in the practice ARCHITECTS OF JUSTICE.

Alessio Lacovig was born in Italy and emigrated, along with his family, to South Africa in 1992. Alessio began his tertiary studies in 1999 and completed his undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Architectural Studies, at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2001.

Alessio's early architectural experience is vast comprising time spent on construction sites as well as internship at well renowned practice, TPC ARCHITECTS. This exposure strengthened his first-hand knowledge of construction and also exposed him to tasks necessary and relevant in the day to day running of a serious architectural practice.

His Postgraduate degree was completed in 2004. During this he saw a real improvement in the way he developed his design thinking, and strengthened his passion of how, as an architect, he could make his ideas a reality.

His final year thesis, titled Healthy Architecture, A Model to Promote a Sustainable Culture, culminated in further nurturing of his skills.

"To this day I believe that unless you have completed a thesis, you cannot call yourself an architect, it is one of the most challenging and frightening things I have ever done, along with skydiving and running a company."

Towards the middle of 2009 Alessio found that he, Mike RASSMANN and Kuba GRANICKI all had similar notions as to how they could positively contribute to the ever changing world of architecture and the architectural profession, and this resulted in him establishing ARCHITECTS OF JUSTICE (AOJ) with them.
