Hendrik Christoffel Potgieter was born 1st November, 1916 on the farm "Morgenzon", Paul Roux (Senekal District), OFS, South Africa. Was awarded a scholarship to study at Witwatersrand Technical College (School of Arts & Crafts) Johannesburg from 1936 to 1941 (under James Gardner and Eric BYRD). Married to Bettie, had two daughters, Kitt and Olga. Died on 28th July, 1992, in Schoemansville, of heart failure. He was one of those that worked on the frieze in the Voortrekker Monument. He and Laurika POSTMA stayed in Italy for a year, 1948, to supervise the carving.
