BARKER, John

Architect


A Yorkshireman, had been an attorney and public notary, but on his arrival at the Cape in 1823 'seems to have turned his talents to building' (Picton-Seymour, 1989: 15). Credited with the design of the facebrick Georgian style house, 'Bertram House'.
