Was first recorded working, as third clerk and draughtsman in the Colonial Engineer's Department, Pietermaritzburg in 1865. He drew up the plans for Fort Durnford in 1874. By 1880 he had become a first clerk and draughtsman in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT in Pietermaritzburg. He was not listed in Pietermaritzburg after 1885. He died in Durban. His former occupation being given as draughtsman and architect and also as architect and civil engineer. (Drawings, Fort Durnford Museum; NCSL 1880; NAD MSCE 8/276)
