Born: 1876
Died: ?

Architect

Was born in Ireland and educated at the Christian Brothers' College. He studied at the South Kensington Schools but it is not known where he was trained. He married in 1901 and came to South Africa about 1903 and joined BAKER & MASEY's office in Cape Town and worked for Baker in Johannesburg and Pretoria, involved with 'most of the largest works' of the firm. Ellis is probably 'the courteous Mr Ellis, the Pretoria representative of BAKER, MASEY & SLOPER, who in his supervisory capacity conducted visitors over the site of the new Governor's House in Pretoria' (SAMBF Jnl Feb 1907:14) (he had joined the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT in Pretoria in March 1907.
