He arrived from the Netherlands before 1896 and was granted citizenship in 1896 11 19 after the Jameson Raid. (Ploeger & de Kock, 1989: 141).
Rex (1974: 375) records him as being in the architectural service of the ZAR PWD. Longland's Directory of 1899 records him as being the 3rd Clerk in the Roads Section.
