KLASING, Jacobus Coenraad

Architect


Born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Came to South Africa in 1895. In 1897 he was working for the ZAR PWD as an architect and is part of a group photograph of staff members. On 4 May 1898 he married Catharina Koster (b 1864 08 13 d 1965 08 10) in Pretoria. They had one child, Elisabeth Klasing, born 1899. During the Anglo-Boer War he was a member of the Hollander Corps escaping capture during the Battle of Elandslaagte. He died in Pretoria and was buried in the Rebecca Street Cemetery, Pretoria West.

Schoeman (2011:166) erroneously has his date of death as 1911 01 30.
