Born in Johannesburg of architect father Harold Nixon PORTER and his wife Olive May Porter (nee Fincham, + 1984). He was schooled at Parkview School and later Parktown Boys High and Hilton College. Obtained his DipArch. (Witwatersrand) in 1943. In 1946 he obtained his Diploma in Town Planning, also from the University of the Witwatersrand. A.M.T.P.I., M.I.S.R.A. He started as a draughtsman with PORTER, BOHLANDER & PARTNERS and later became partner. In 1959 their address was 719, Corporation Building, Commissioner Street, (Box 2527), Johannesburg. In 1942 03 20 he married Violet Mary Winton by whom he had four children Roger, Barry, John and Gillian. He died in Johannesburg after a brief illness.
